The Necessities...

Thus far, I have created the idea, acquired extras, rented a studio, and managed to have a professional photographer on set that could assist with any camera work and lighting. I have several cameras that I could use to film the opening but I don't know which one would work best. I was thinking my iPhone would be great because I could buy effects to place over the camera lens and create different color schemes and lighting with that. I bought a kit from amazon just a couple days ago and many lenses came inside. I didn't buy it for Brainless Babe, but it could work!

Here's the link if you'd like to check out the kit! It's amazing.

My next step would be to finalize the mood board for the model. By doing this, I could use anything in my closet that I know would fit well, and I would then have time to purchase anything I'm missing. As of right now, I think she would be wearing very classy, simple colors, like white, black, and nudes. I want the vibe to feel modern, but with a vintage visual effect. For clothes that give off this vibe, I'd go to Zara, H&M, and Urban Outfitters. Maybe I'll go sometime this week! As for makeup, I have tons of it! I have palettes, blushes, shadows, lip colors, mascaras; you name it. Let's see what I can put together.

See you soon,

Film Day!

The day has been set! March 13, 2022.; the day Brainless Babe will get to begin filming! Back in my Perfect Planning blog, I mentioned a studio named Face2Face; one I've shot at several times thanks to my amazing photographer. Anyway, I texted him asking when the studio was available, towards mid March as I'll be away this weekend, and he said March 12 or 13. I texted my friends to see what day they could help me on and they said either!

It will be 8 of us at the studio shooting from 1-5pm. Since we're under 21, my photographer said he'd have to be there in order for us to rent out the studio. It was 25 dollars an hour and I'm beyond excited for the day to arrive. I texted 8 specific people: Mia, Sabrina, Olivia, Xamir, Sebastian, Sophia, Aneesa, and John Henry. I needed the space to look crowded as a normal photoshoot would. Some will do hair, some will do makeup, two will be photographers, and others will be "directing the photoshoot".

 This is the studio

I'm ready!

Why I Need a Song

It should be well known that music makes visuals far more sentimental. I recall scrolling through social media looking for things that I wanted to feel, either now or in the future. The song would always be the factor to persuade me. It can something so normal feel so electric. I want to give that feeling to whoever may be watching the opening.  With this said, I'm on the search for the perfect song to play while the model is shooting.

I went to a modeling camp back in August. It was the best experience I've had in my modeling career to this date. I learned several things but the most important was that my job, as a model, is to make people feel something; anything. I have some pictures from my trip! You'll see some below but the video is when supermodel Coco Rocha was posing and a song by Miley Cyrus was playing in the background. Every girl in that room felt like tearing up because her posing was beyond powerful.

Now I'm on a mission to find my song for the film opening; one that gives the same effect. I'm starting to look far before I begin editing because of copyright. I understand that I must acquire permission from whoever owns the song to use it in my project.

Talk soon!

To Whom This May Apply...

Lets discuss Brainless Babe and it's target audience:

Target Audience is key to a successful film. Evidently, with no audience, there are no views, no sales, no anything of the sort that would potentially bring success. Properly identifying a target audience builds the best foundation for a film's release. During production it is something that should be running through your head constantly; what's something that the target audience wants to obtain from the film? Something they would admire?

Brainless Babe has a large target audience that is predominantly female. Since the film focuses on a young girl starting out as a model in the fashion industry, the target audience entails people in the fashion industry, teen girls, models, photographers, makeup artists, and more of all ages. This film would do really well if marketed properly towards these people as their lives, and for some their careers, revolves around shared goals and emotions as every day passes. Movies with similar target audiences include a Devil Wears Prada, What a Girl Wants, Mean Girls, and so forth.

Perfect Planning

I’m back! Here to document my planning for the portfolio project! Planning is vital, as one may so obviously know, so, I decided to write out a potential schedule that I’ll follow here! From previous projects, like the foley and music video project, I learned that film takes time…. a lot of time. The effort, consistency, time, and will that one must put towards filming something is grand. Like I’ve stated before, this class has given me my first projects that I am, genuinely, beyond excited to accomplish. Soon, I’ll storyboard and be ready to capture the image that lies in my head.

Brainless Babe requires a main model, makeup artists, hairstylists, a school, and photographers. At first, I thought of filming an actual shoot that I’ll be at, March 6-9. But I realized that may be a little overwhelming for the people on set because that whole trip, which I’ll be out of town for, I’ll be modeling from dawn to dusk since I need a lot of looks in just two full days.

Since all problems have a solution, I figured out a better idea to film the opening. I just recently had a photoshoot at the studio I always go to; Face2Face. I decided that it’d be more ideal, and more relaxing, if I were to rent out the studio for a couple hours and have some of my friends be the extras that I need. They were all okay with helping me out that day! So, the weekend after I come back, I’ll rent the studio and we get to filming so I have enough time to edit it well!

For now, I’ll continue blogging four times a week to develop ideas for the film opening. See you next week!

An All In One Film!

Brainless Babe is an all in one film. Let me elaborate:

Brainless Babe is a coming-of-age film that entails romance, drama, suspense, and more, all while reminding you of some of the most iconic late 90s/2000s chic films. Before I go on to discuss the genre, here are some of my favorite 2000s films:

I recommend watching these if you're the type to love girly Coming-of-Age movies.

Now, what is Coming-of-Age?

Coming-of-Age is not necessarily a genre alone. At times, it feels like a theme. All films within this category usually rely on one focus, one character. This character's growth, from childhood to adulthood, is shown. The story depends on whether it's a love story, news story, or anything of the sort; therefore, specifying the genre. Coming-of-Age films create a lot emotional response within characters and it's visible through the use of dialogue. Often, the films don't rely on action.

Values that are portrayed in coming-of-age films consist of morality, self-awareness, responsibility, growth, etc. Several life lessons are learned from these movies. An example is from the film Perks of being a Wallflower, "Things change. Life goes on. With or without certain people;" this lesson was derived by author Zara Komora in The Daily Clog blog. She has a couple other examples if you'd like to read some more!

More recent coming-of-age films are less "feel good" than what I'm going for; that is why I chose these 6 movies above as inspiration. In Brainless Babe, the young model would be facing a life-changing experience. Something so monumental that she when she's grown into adulthood, other young models look up to her for changing the stereotype.

We Parted Ways...

We parted ways..

My partners and I decided to split up. As discussed in the last post, we ran into some altercations with what we each wanted to film. I had my separate idea, therefore I am now working individually while Clara and Olivia are going to work together because they both had a more cinematic desire for their film opening; I want mine to feel very 90s/00s.

So, I am in fact going to produce Brainless Babe (well, just the first two minutes :P)! I originally told Olivia that I would be down to produce a psychological thriller with her. However, after watching Andrew Stanton's TED Talk and Sophie Diebold's project from a few years back, I decided I must take my own route. With respect, we discussed that it would be best to go based off of what we know. I, as a model, know about the fashion industry and I know how brutal reporters could get for the public to see. Olivia, on the other hand, knows a lot about thrillers, and she loves to act; in all honesty, I don't, it isn't my thing. Reason being I would star in Brainless Babe by doing my real life job, and she would get to star in her thriller.

Referring back to Stanton's TED Talk, I believe that going based off of what I already know, will not only benefit my project, but also in the long run as I will attend fashion school, Parsons School of Design, in New York City and, if allowed, I could put my project in my portfolio. I've always wanted to produce something similar to what I have planned for the Cambridge Portfolio.

Anyway, talk tomorrow!
